Shiyun Pan claims Men’s 100m freestyle gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Shiyun Pan of China claimed gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle in S7 category on fifth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Monday, September 3.
Pan astonished the crowd with his smothering efforts in the double lap discipline as he outperformed his opponents over the finishing end for gold medal.
With his continuous efforts, Pan not only captured the title but also lowered the Asian Record of the event by touching the wall in a phenomenal timing of 1 minute and 00.57 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Matthew Levy of Australia, who stayed full body length slower from him and transpired on the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 01.38 seconds.
Levy was traced by Lantz Lamback of USA, who remained 0.12 seconds slower and tapped the wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 01.50 seconds.
Third position holder was followed by Josef Craig of Great Britain, who suffered a loss of only 0.70 seconds from his preceding swimmer and hit the wall for fourth position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.20 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Craig’s team-member, Jonathan Fox, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.26 seconds.
Fox was traced by Yevheniy Bohodayko of Ukraine, who remained 1.70 seconds slower from overpowering his preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 03.96 seconds for sixth position.
The Ukrainian swimmer was followed by his teammate, Oleksandr Komarov, who stayed nearly two body lengths behind and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 05.60 seconds for seventh place.
Komarov was traced by Andrey Gladkov of Russia, who was 0.44 seconds apart and ended his race in eighth best place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 06.04 seconds.
Pan was extremely happy with his gold finish in the discipline and raked medal for his dazzling effort after the event.
