Shiyun Pan clinches Men’s 50m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Shiyun Pan of China clinched gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly in S7 category on day two of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Friday, August 31.
The Chinese swimmer smothered his opponents with his meticulous efforts in the single lap butterfly discipline. He stayed in a comfortable lead over his toughest challenger throughout the event and touched the wall for gold medal.
With his continuous efforts, Pan enjoyed a half body length lead over his following swimmer and hit the wall for the crown of the race by clocking an effort of 29.49 seconds.
He was followed by Yevheniy Bohodayko of Ukraine, who remained 0.70 seconds slower from upsetting the gold medallist and touched the wall with a timing of 30.19 seconds for silver medal.
Bohodayko was traced by Jingang Wang of China, who stayed 0.56 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as third best finisher by producing a time of 30.75 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Matthew Levy of Australia, who remained nearly one body length slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 31.54 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was traced by Daisuke Ejima of Japan, who stayed more than a body length behind and sprinted his way towards the wall as fifth best finisher by posting a time of 32.88 seconds.
The Japanese swimmer was trailed by Lantz Lamback of USA, who remained only 0.09 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and proved his eligibility for sixth best spot of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 32.97 seconds.
Lamback was chased by Matthew Walker of Great Britain, who stayed nearly one second behind and ended his race in seventh best place with the timing of 33.93 seconds.
Similarly, Yuanrun Yang of China was disqualified from the playoff due to a false start and was unable to secure any position.
Pan expressed happiness over his title claiming effort in the butterfly discipline and articulated that he would work hard and try to defend his title in forthcoming swimming events.
