Sho Sasaki defeats Marc Zwiebler in Men’s Singles first round at the 2012 Malaysia Open Super Series
Japan’s left hander, Sho Sasaki, passed the Men’s Singles first round test as he defeated Germany’s Marc Zwiebler with a narrow margin at the 2012 Malaysia Open Super Series on Wednesday, January 11, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Sasaki, who is World Number Six at the moment, struggled hard to get rid of his talented German opponent and managed to win the fight in three games by taking 44 minutes in the court.
The World Number 15 Zwiebler played superb badminton in the opening set but failed to continue his winning run and lost the remaining both games to his higher ranked Japanese rival.
In the first game of the match, Sasaki could not find a good start as his rival was playing aggressive badminton. However he remained close until 8-8 when Zwiebler controlled the pace and set up a two-point lead of 11-9 until the break.
After the break, the German showed his class and stunned his Japanese opponent by playing remarkable game. Sasaki was helpless against the perfect play of his challenger in the opening set and lost it with a surprising score of 12-21.
In the second game, Sasaki showed his class as he remained miles ahead of Zwiebler in the whole set. He did not spare even a single chance for his German rival to level the score throughout the game.
Zwiebler lost his focus in the second game and committed numerous unforced errors. He could not find break the flow of Sasaki, who was playing with wonderful precision. The Japanese ended the second game with an authoritative margin of 21-12.
In the deciding game, Sasaki again took an early lead and maintained pressure on Zwiebler by playing aggressive badminton.
The German failed to level the score even for a single time in the final set as his Japanese rival was playing at the highest level of the game.
Sasaki did not face any hurdle from his opponent in the final set and easily won it with a one-sided 21-14 score on the board. The end result of this Men’s Singles first-round contest was 12-21, 21-12 and 21-14.
