Sho Zeniya ousts Beng Hong Kuan to surge into quarter-final at Singapore International Series
Japan’s spirited player Sho Zeniya proved his mettle and surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final after showing his tremendous skills against Malaysia’s Beng Hong Kuan in round-of-16 battle at Singapore International Series 2012 in Singapore, on Thursday, August 16.
The in-form Zeniya, who has been seeded at number 10 in Men’s Singles main draw in the tournament, showed his aggression on court and overpowered his higher ranked Malaysian opponent who was seventh seeded player in the championship.
The lower ranked Japanese shuttler played to his maximum potential on court and remained successful in ending up the winning streak of Beng Hong by finishing off the match in straight games with a tight margin.
In the meanwhile, the seventh seeded Beng Hong also tried to put up strong show and remained close to his Japanese opponent on score board but failed to live up to expectations in ending points and lost the match to Zeniya without winning any set.
In the first game, both shuttlers put in their maximum effort to push each other on back foot but none of them could get a clear position on score board.
Until the mid-game interval, both players remained at the same level and the score also remained close on the board.
After the mid-game break, the Japanese player increased his speed at net and managed to create a little pressure on his Malaysian opponent who failed to dictate the pace of rallies at the ending phase.
Zeniya played with precision in the ending points of opening game and managed to win it with a 21-19 score on the board.
In the following set, Beng Hong again showed a strong resistance and did not allow Zeniya to take lead until the mid-game interval.
Nevertheless, after the break, Zeniya took over the control and started to inject more power into his shots by gearing up his speed in all areas.
The impressive Japanese shuttler played positive and planned game in the ending points and snatched the second set with a close margin of 21-19.
The 10th seeded Zeniya emerged as the winner against Beng Hong in two sets with a decent 21-19 and 21-19 score on the board.
