Shoaib, Kamran and Danish fail to get clearance from ICC
The International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit did not give clearance to three of the Pakistani cricketers, Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal and Danish Kaneria, who were alleged to be involved in spot fixing and match fixing.
According to media reports these three alleged players now will not be able to take part in the World Cup squad 2011. They have also not been selected for the New Zealand tour by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
Earlier, it was reported that the ICC will send a clearance list of players to the PCB, after which Pakistan will send a 30 men list to the ICC.
Three of these players who performed well in domestic cricket were disappointed for not being selected for the New Zealand tour and the World Cup 2011.
Kamaran Akmal, Pakistani wicket keeper c*m batsman decided to meet the PCB officials to seek a clarification for being thrown out of the national team despite performing well in domestic cricket.
“There is so much being said about the spot-fixing scandal these days and my name is also being mentioned in it. I want to seek some clarification from the board on this," he said.
This decision was quite a shock for the wicket keeper because he had received a clearance letter from the ICC last month.
"As far as I know I got a letter from the ICC saying I was clear to play for any team. I want to know why I am being ignored," he added.
On the other hand, all-rounder Shoaib Malik was also shocked by his dismissal from the national team, because the media had not brought any noticeable allegations against him. But according to recent media reports, the ICC Anti-Corruption
Unit has some doubts about his involvement in some corruption related activities. The international governing body of cricket has taken action against Malik for having connections with Mazhar Majeed, a sports manager at the center of the match fixing scandal.
Chief Selector Mohsin Khan explained the reason for their delay in naming the squad for one-day international series against New Zealand and said that the increasing unavailability of several key players is the major reason behind
the Selection Committee’s reluctance in naming the squad.
“We are facing a lot of problems because of the unavailability of several players,”
It was also reported that the World Cup squad will be announced in New Zealand. While talking about the dismissal of these three Pakistani cricketers, Mohsin said that it’s a huge hindrance for Pakistan but in short they should
learn to live with it.
“I’m really sorry about it but we have to live with it,” he said. “I mean there can’t be any compromise on discipline,” he added.
He further said that this is a misfortune for Pakistan to loss these three players in the World Cup squad, but he, along with other selectors will try their best to select the best squad for it.
“We have a selection committee meeting on the 15th in Lahore. I will also meet with the PCB chairman to discuss our options. Hopefully we will strike a good combination in spite of all the problems.”
Pakistan’s cricket team manager, Intakhab Alam expressed his hopes for an excellent performance from the Pakistani team on the New Zealand tour. He said that the Pakistani players have a lot of potential and they are far better
than the New Zealand team.
