Shoaib Malik favours Javed Miandad as the batting coach for the Pakistan national team
Pakistan’s discarded middle-order batsman, Shoaib Malik, has favoured the appointment of Javed Miandad as the batting coach for the Pakistan cricket team. The ex-cricketer has joined in the growing belief that the team desperately needs a batting coach who
can improve the batting performance of the Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Green-c60723.
Malik, while talking to the media, said, “I don't think there is a better cricketer than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 to take over as batting coach. He has a great cricket mind and sharp insight into the game. I think he would be great."
Miandad was offered the job by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) before the ongoing West Indies series. However, the former Pakistan batting legend rejected the offer as he deemed it inappropriate to work under his junior, Waqar Younis, who is the head coach
of the Pakistan team.
It is believed that to avoid any confrontation with Waqar, Miandad humbly declined PCB’s offer and insisted that he will be more useful in the cricket academy where he could help in improving the batting techniques of the younger cricketers.
He however, visited the national training camp set up in Lahore for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 also insisted that Pakistan needed a batting coach. The flamboyant Afridi initially requested Miandad
to take the job but after it was made clear that the former batsman was not interested in the job, Afridi insisted that the PCB look for other options.
Malik on the other hand still feels that Pakistan will gain a great deal by appointing Miandad as the batting consultant. Speaking on his return to the national team, the 29-year old Malik said, “I have been keeping myself fit with Yoga classes and intensive
training so I am ready to make a comeback to international cricket whenever they want me to."
Malik has been out of the Pakistan cricket team since Pakistan’s test series in England last summer which caused a grave embarrassment for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team as three of its main players Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were involved in spot-fixing.
The charges were later proved and the trio has since been banned from the sport.
After this debacle, the PCB was forced to formulate an integrity committee to look into the financial assets of the all the players in the national squad. Most of the players disclosed their assets in front of the committee. However, Malik failed to give
details of his foreign accounts.
The integrity committee refused to clear him for selection causing the selection team not to consider him for Pakistan’s world cup squad. Malik argues that he has now given all the information that was needed by the integrity committee and it is up to the
PCB to recall him for duties in the national squad.
