Shoaib Malik optimistic about his chances of a national recall – Cricket News Update
The out-of-favour Pakistani all-rounder, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088, who recently led the Sialkot Stallions to their seventh Faisal Bank Twenty20 title, has reiterated that he still has a lot of cricket left in him.
The 30-year-old former captain of Pakistan has been consistently out of national reckoning over the past couple of years, but he said that bad patches are there in every players life.
"I know I have a lot of cricket left," Malik, a right-handed middle order batsman and a handy right-arm off-spinner, told ESPNCricinfo on Tuesday.
The 30-year-old all-rounder has led Pakistan’s domestic teams, PIA and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842 Stallions to domestic glory in the Faysal Bank One-Day National Cup and the Faysal Bank Super Eight T-20 Cup respectively.
There have been reports that the newly appointed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571 is considering him for the captaincy role in the shortest format of the game.
"They [PCB] know what I am capable of and how I can make a difference by being in the team,” said the right-handed middle order batsman. “I am fit and in the best form. There is always a bad patch in every player's life but that
doesn't mean he is done with his cricket - that's not the case," he added further.
Malik is not a PCB contracted player, and he last played for Pakistan in the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 earlier this year. However, he was overlooked for the quadrangular Asia Cup tournament held in Bangladesh
last month.
After being overlooked for the regional ODI tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, Malik returned to the domestic circuit where he finished the Faysal Bank One-Day National Cup as the leading run scorer with a tally of 353 runs at an average
of 58.83 in his seven innings. The tally also included five half centuries. His right-arm off-spin fetched him 14 wickets, and he was the second highest wicket taker of the tournament.
"I am very motivated to try and get back into the side,” said the all-rounder. “There is always a time in your life when you are tested but what's important is that you stand tall and look for the best out of the worst,” he added
further.
