Shoaib Malik says his career is not over yet
Former captain and star all-rounder of the Pakistan cricket team, Shoaib Malik claimed that his international career was not over yet, and vowed that he would be a part of the national team in the near future.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced a 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup, and the biggest name to be ignored from that squad was that of Malik. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 was the other player who was overlooked by the board.
Malik was disappointed by not being a part of the team for the Mega event, but said that he will make a comeback. He said, “Missing the World Cup is a big setback for me. But my career is certainly not over and I can still continue to play for another five
to six years, so I know that I can make a comeback.”
Former players from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 criticised the decision to ignore Malik without any reason for the World Cup, and Malik was also not aware why he was not picked. He stated, “I was mentally prepared to be selected, as I am in good form and am performing well
in the domestic cricket. But I don't know why they didn't pick me.”
Malik had also been in the spotlight for having differences with some of the senior players in the past, but the veteran all-rounder denied such reports. He said, “I am ready to play under any captain and offer him full support. The impression that I am
an intriguer is not right.”
Former Captain Amir Sohail said that the board hasn’t functioned properly due to which many controversies have arisen, but he was satisfied with the squad that was picked for the Mega event.
Sohail commented, “The good thing is that the selectors have picked the right mix of experienced and youth in the World Cup preliminary squad, because in such a big tournament you need seniors to lead the way.”
He was however furious over the selection of Yasir Araft. He stated that Yasir had been given many chances in the past, and he failed to make the most of them.
