http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Malik-c90088 should have been in the ODI squad as well, says Basit Ali – Cricket News Update
Basit Ali, the former Test cricketer, believes that the middle-order batsman, Shoaib Malik, should have been retained in the One Day International (ODI) squad for the series against Sri Lanka and expressed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Azhar-Ali-c46890 should only play Test cricket for
Pakistan.
Since the last three years, Malik has gone through a number of controversies and has not played a lot of international cricket. After getting a clearance from Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) integrity committee last year, the all-rounder made a comeback to
the national team, but has been depressingly out of form.
However, after getting dropped after the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, and played a crucial little knock, which helped the Green Shirts
level the series.
While talking to Pakpassion, Basit expressed that Malik is a utility cricketer and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-James-Harrison-c41916 a lot of balance to the side. The former middle-order batsman from Karachi feels that the 30-year-old should have been in the squad in place of Azhar, who he
thinks should only be considered for the longer version of the sport.
“Though Azhar has done well in Test cricket, I feel he should not be in the One Day squad. Since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 should persist
will him. He looked good in 2nd T20. If he would have been in the squad, Pakistan would have the 6th bowler as well,” said Basit.
The left-arm pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665, was retained in the ODI squad in place of Nasir Jamshed, who had injured his finger during a club match in Lahore last month.
A keen observer of the game, Basit also slammed some of the policies of PCB and expressed that the mates of ex-Chairman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 are still calling the shots in the board and the old policies must be halted, if Pakistan’s cricket is to move forward.
He mentioned, “Pakistan needs to move on. Why are the same people working whilst the chairman has been changed?”
