I have a snap together pool for my 3 yr old and 1 yr old and i dont want to keep wasting this water everyday. and i have washed the car with it and watered plants..but theres still alot left over. so i want to try to try and maintain it. i want to be green. i have heard bleach, borax, and other ingredients to maintain everything but i am worried about all those chemicals and my little ones.and yes i do it at night but it still worries me so i thought shock it small packages would be a better option. 1. Best bet is drain it and refill.

Most shock treatments are made for large amounts of water and you run the risk of putting too much chemical in for such a small amount of water. Too much chemical can also ruin the liner.

Drain it and refill. Then add just a little amount of chlorine every day to keep clean. If it has no filtering system it will be tough to keep clean. Get yourself a small chlorine test kit at Walmart, etc to check the chlorine levels. Do not allow the kids in if it is too high.

  2. An alternative to chlorine, is Baqucil, it is alot easier on eyes, skin & hair. and you can add it just a few minutes before swimming. You only have to shock once a month. It is a little more expensive than chlorine and you can only purchase it from a pool store. Though as a monther of 4 (8yr, 6yr, 4yr & 21mon) and a resident of this hot state of texas, we spend a lot of time in the pool, and so the extra money is well worth it. Hope this helps.

  3. Chlorine is the best way to keep your water safe. Do not let your kids in the pool while it's milky white though. Wait till it's clean, than it's save.

Have you ever used Chlorine? If you have, you didn't use enough if it wasn't a tiny bit whitish.
