San Jose siblings Brandi and Brandon Gonzalez are a team with a lot of courage and compassion.

Brandi, 8, has been saving money for a year to donate shoes for orphans in the Philippines through the Chosen Children Village Foundation.

"She has bought 14 pairs of shoes throughout the last few months," her mother, Norene Gonzalez, told me. "She had no idea how expensive it would be for all the kids to get new shoes. She learned how to shop on clearance and look for sales."

It's been a trying time for the family because Brandi's brother, 11-year-old Brandon, has been battling leukemia. But together, Brandi and Brandon decided to boost her efforts by starting a shoe drive that runs though July 15.

For more details, check out the Web site (www.shoes4orphans.com) that Brandon designed or call (408) 239-9970.
