Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has backed his younger brother Sammy Ameobi to shine at the club and surpass his achievements.
The 31-year old striker has spent his entire football career with the Magpies and has made an impressive number of 340 appearances in the black and white jersey, scoring over 70 goals.
Ameobi was expected to be sold by the club after the arrival of the prolific Senegalese strikers http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Demba-Ba-c10812 and Papiss Demba Cisse, but his role and status at the club have still ensured his spot in the starting 11.
The player starts more games for Newcastle in the cup competitions and in the Europa League, but remains an integral part of the squad. He is now hoping that his younger brother can shine at Tyneside and become a Newcastle great.
The 20-year old has been impressive since he graduated from the club’s academy system and into the first team set-up.
Shola believes that Sammy is destined for a bright career in a Newcastle jersey, and is confident that the young attacker will surpass his achievements with the club.
The player is expected to star alongside his younger sibling for tonight’s Europa League clash against Club Brugge. Speaking to the press, he said:
"When we were growing up, I think he was maybe a little bit intimidated by me, which is normal. He's trying to go through what I've been through.”
"I feel that as a big brother, I have to make sure he's on the right track all the time. I know my parents expect that of me, and it's something I'm conscious about doing.”
“I want to see him surpass anything I've ever done in this game and I know he has the ability to do that. He can do that, without a shadow of a doubt."

The likes of Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson have been backed to make a positive impact for the senior side. The manager hopes that both players can make an impression this season and start featuring regularly for the starting 11.
