Shon Wan Ho beats Jan O Jorgensen in a nail-biting contest at Thomas Cup Finals 2012
Korea’s upcoming shuttler Shon Wan Ho proved his mettle in the court when he overpowered his higher ranked opponent Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark in Men’s Singles contest at the Thomas Cup Finals at Wuhan, China, on Friday, May 25.
The World Number 14 Wan Ho, who has been impressive throughout the tournament, played to his maximum speed and overwhelmed his higher ranked rival Jorgensen who is placed at number 13 in Men’s Singles world standings.
The lower ranked Korean entertained the huge local crowd with his impressive play and managed to win the battle in three-games by taking 64 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the higher ranked Jorgensen could not cope up with the speed of his spirited Korean rival and lost the fight in three sets without impressing the crowd.
In the opening game of this contest, the Korean found a fascinating start when he played with impressive variations in his shots and remained successful in taking a stunning lead on the score board against Jorgensen until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wan Ho continued his roller-coaster performance in the court while playing on a different level and wrapped up the set with a one-sided score of 21-13.
In the following set, Jorgensen played better badminton and remained in complete control this time. Until the interval, both shuttlers remained close until the one-minute interval.
After the one-minute break, both players played in the similar fashion but the Korean failed to maintain his positive position in the game and lost the set with a margin of 14-21.
In the deciding game, both shuttler played aggressively while remaining focused in the game and remained neck-to-neck until the mid-game interval.
After one-minute the break, Wan Ho showed his remarkable skills and took over the control from his Danish opponent. He remained on track in the ending half of final game and won it with a comfortable 21-16 score on the board.
The in-form Wan Ho showed his class and emerged as the winner of this fascinating battle in rubber games with a margin of 21-13, 14-21 and 21-16.
