Shon Wan Ho ousts Nguyen Tien Minh in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 in 2011 French Open Super Series
Korea’s Shon Wan Ho surprised the crowd as he has ousted Vietnam’s higher ranked Nguyen Tien Minh in the Men’s Singles round-of-16 match of the 2011 French Open Super Series, at Paris, France, on Thursday, October 27.
The World Number 25 Wan Ho continues his impressive run in the tournament as he has reached into the quarter-final stage in the main draw of Men’s Singles. He played terrific badminton against the World Number Eight Tien Minh and won the three-set match by taking 59 minutes of hard work in the court.
Tien Minh showed his class in the first set of the match as he played remarkable game and won it with a big margin. However, he failed to continue his superb play in the second game and lost it with a close margin. In the final set, Wan Ho played wonderful badminton and took the set with a one-sided margin and won the match.
The match started in the favour of the Vietnamese as he played flawless badminton. His attacking approach maintained a good pressure on the Korean throughout the opening game. Wan Ho failed to put up strong defence as his opponent was playing with perfection in all areas of the court. The Korean lost the first set without playing well with a margin of 12-21.
In the second game of the match, Wan Ho elevated his level of play by accelerating his speed. He delivered superb performance in this set by playing to his full potential. He employed his wonderful skill against the higher ranked opponent and remained close until the ending points.
Tien Minh tried his best to stop the aggressive run of the Korean in the ending points of the second game but failed as Wan Ho remained fast and positive and won the set with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the third game of the match, Wan Ho played on a different level and showed no respect to Tien Minh in the whole set. He set up an early lead and maintained it by playing planned badminton. Wan Ho ended the third game with a margin of 21-14. The final result of this three-set fight was 12-21, 21-18 and 21-14.
