Shon Wan Ho overpowers Parupalli Kashyap to land title berth in India Open Super Series
Korea’s young player Shon Wan Ho lands a title berth as he overpowered India’s Parupalli Kashyap in Men’s Singles semi-final of the India Open Super Series 2012 on Saturday, April 28, at New Delhi, India.
The World Number 17 Wan Ho, who was un-seeded in the event, had to work hard against the lower ranked Kashyap and he managed to win the battle in three games with a decent margin on the board.
Wan Ho took the opening game with a wonderful ease but failed to win the second set as Kashyap played better badminton in the ending points and levelled the match.
However, the Korean lifted up his level of play in the final set and managed to win it with a good margin.
In the opening set, both shuttlers played well in opening rallies. However, the Korean took over the control by playing positive badminton. He was impressive in his net shots and his shot selection was also superb.
On the other hand, the World Number 30 Kashyap could not dominate the pace of rallies and remained slightly behind his opponent until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wan Ho continued his dominating run in the game and took advantage in this semi-final contest by taking the opening set with a 21-14 score on the board.
In the second set, both shuttlers played tremendous badminton. They played with precision and managed to remain close until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Wan Ho was leading with a 16-14 margin when he lost his focus in the game and eventually lost it with a narrow margin of 19-21.
In the deciding set, Kashyap played spirited game in opening half as he played with aggression and also troubled his Korean rival by playing good badminton at net.
However, Wan Ho also played well and managed to level the score at 10-10. Until the one-minute interval, the Korean was leading the game with an 11-10 margin on the board.
After the break, Wan Ho became aggressive as he did not miss any chance to push his Indian opponent on the back foot.
The Korean remained positive in the concluding part of final set and bagged it with a margin of 21-16.
The in-form Wan Ho defeated Kashyap in three games with a 21-14, 19-21 and 21-16 score on the board.
In the title match, Wan Ho will take on World Number One Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who tamed Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei in the other semi-final encounter.
