Shon Wan Ho stuns Peter Hoeg Gade in Men’s Singles quarter-final at India Open Super Series
Korea’s upcoming young shuttler Shon Wan Ho showed his aggressive skills when he stunned the higher ranked Peter Hoeg Gade of Denmark in India Open Super Series 2012 in India, on Friday, April 27.
Wan Ho, who has been positioned at number 17 in the Men’s Singles world standings, showed his impressive craft and outplayed the World Number Five Peter Gade, who was the seeded at number two in the tournament.
The lower ranked Korean played remarkable badminton for 53 minutes and overpowered his Danish opponent in straight games with a decent margin on the board.
On the other hand, Peter Gade could not put up convincing show and crashed out without taking any set from his Korean opponent.
Right from the initial stage of first game, both players showed aggression and played tremendous badminton without slowing down the pace of rallies.
They employed all of their shots to take advantage in the opening half of first set but failed to set up lead.
Until the break in the opening set, it was Wan Ho who was ahead by taking a small lead of 11-10.
After the mid-game interval, Wan Ho continued playing tremendous badminton without sparing any chance for his higher ranked Danish opponent to dominate the pace of rallies.
Wan Ho played well and reached at 20-17 when Peter Gade showed glimpses of brilliance when he took three points in a row to level the score at 20-20.
However, Wan Ho geared up his speed and managed to take the game from his Danish opponent with a 24-22 score on the board.
In the second game, both men again played top quality badminton and remained equal until the mid-game interval.
However, it was Peter Gade who managed a decent lead of 16-12 after the break. But he failed to maintain it as Wan Ho played aggressive badminton while remaining positive and levelled the score at 16-16.
Wan Ho remained in complete control at this crucial stage and won the second game with an impressive margin of 21-18.
The Korean won the quarter-final battle in 53 minutes with a 24-22 and 21-18 score on the board.
