Korea’s in-form shuttler Shon Wan Ho lived up to expectations as he played dominating badminton and overpowered Germany’s Dieter Domke at the quarter-final battle at the Thomas Cup Finals 2012 on Wednesday, May 23, in China.
The World Number 14 Wan Ho, who has been playing remarkable badminton for the last few months, put up tremendous show and won the battle against the lower ranked Domke who has been placed at number 67 in the world.
The higher ranked Korean played while remaining confident in the court and remained successful in winning the battle in straight games with a close margin on the board.
On the other hand, the lower ranked German displayed his phenomenal skills in the court and also remained positive throughout the game but failed to overpower his opponent in the ending points and lost the battle with a tight score.
In the first game, both shuttlers played composed badminton and remained close in opening points.
However, it was Domke who showed remarkable performance at this stage and took a superb lead of 11-7 on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Wan Ho changed his strategy in the game as he started to play flat shots and pushed his rival away from the net.
The Korean remained positive at this stage in the game and remained successful in winning the set with a dramatic 22-20 score on the board.
In the second game, both players again showed their impressive craft in the court as they played with precision and they could not set up the a reasonable lead until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Domke tried to show his aggression but failed to create any gap as his higher ranked rival was in control this time.
Wan Ho injected pace in his shots and also worked well at net while remaining focused. He did not commit any mistake in the concluding part of the second game and managed to grab it with a close 21-19 score on the board.
The Korean won the straight-set battle in 45 minutes with a dramatic margin of 22-20 and 21-19.
