Shona Robison applauds the supreme accomplishment of Andy Murray at Olympics – Tennis News
Sports minister of Scotland, Shona Robison, congratulated the number one Briton, Andy Murray, on his monumental triumph at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on the eve of Sunday. She was ecstatic to her country’s native triumphing
at his home soil providing some glory to the spectators who have not witnessed any major victories in the field of lawn tennis.
She commented, “Andy’s performances were incredibly impressive. It was an honour to be here today to cheer him on in his first Olympic Final and I was absolutely thrilled when he took the Men’s Singles Gold for Team GB as well
as the Silver in the Mixed Doubles with partner Laura Robson.”
Robinson further added, “Andy has again done us proud by adding yet more medals and equalling Scotland’s best ever showing at an Olympic Games. I’m now looking forward to celebrating further medal success in the days to come.”
Murray ousted the reigning world number one, Roger Federer, in straight sets to win the gold medal at the London Olympics on the eve of Sunday. He was the third seed contestant and started the match as the second favourite but
soon turned around the situation in his favour with some blistering display of forehand and backhand winners.
Federer never looked like a better player at the courts and continued to struggle miserably especially in the second set when he was almost on the verge of falling victim to a rare bagel before he managed to hang on to his serve
in the sixth game.
Moreover, it was not the only triumph for the Scot. He crashed into the Centre Courts of Wimbledon to contest for the second gold medal of the day in the mixed doubles category along with the 18-year-old booming starlet, Laura
Robson.
The British team was up against the likes of singles world number one, Victoria Azarenka, and doubles specialist from Belarus, Max Mirnyi. They lost the battle but still clinched the silver medal that made it a memorable night
in the professional career of the Scot.
Murray will be seen back in action at the Rogers Cup; starting as the second seed competitor after the defending champion, Novak Djokovic.
