  1. it would hit the ground

  2. An arrow disappearing from the back of a train.

    End of chat.

  3. Its will still shoot out of the train and hit the ground.

  4. Gorgon Medici got it right,so did Einstein!

  5. It seems to me, if the arrow was traveling at say 300 fps, (quite fast for an arrow) and the train is going 40 mph which is 58 fps the speed of the arrow would be traveling it's own speed minus the forward speed of the train or away from the train at a speed of 252 feet per second.

For the arrow to drop straight down it would have to be going outbound at the same speed of the forward motion of the train.

  6. You would see a conducters boot, Your bow would get impounded. These days if you were a Native American he would have to give the bow and arrows back or the ACLU would sue the train company.

  7. You can't fire an arrow that slowly.

  8. The train behind, would see the arrow coming towards it, as the train you are on has its speed and you are putting a new force on the arrow, so it would go towards the train. If the train was able to acelerate quickly enough then the arrow, would in effect stay stationary.

  9. An arrow leaving you at the speed of the arrow and the train speed.combined..............OF COURSE...lodgitttttttttttttty

  10. Assuming you're firing horizontally, the arrow would fall to the ground as if it had been dropped from a stationary point.

  11. what direction will you be shooting your arrow ?

if you fire the arrow in the direction of travel then for a short time the arrow will move faster than the speed of the train

if you fire it left or right it will travel away from the train at its own speed but also travel sideways as the same speed of the train

if you fire it back away from the direction the train is traveling then unless your arrow travels faster than the speed of the train it will move slowly backwards as it flys landing behind the spot your fired it

but each arrow will end up landing on the ground someplace unless it sticks in something else in its travel

  12. Surely you shoot an arrow out of a bow not a train ! sorry, you walked into that one mate :-)

  13. a very irate Conductor wanting to know why you are in his Cab !!:P

  14. This actually forms a part of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity.  Einstein used a moving train and an observer standing on the railway embankment to illustrate his theory.  Relative to the observer on the embankment, the arrow would appear to be standing still with respect to the forward motion of the train, and simply fall straight down and land on the railroad ties.  Relative to an observer in the last car of the train, the arrow would appear to fly away from the train as it fell to the ground.

  15. geronimo???

  16. It will turn into a frog

  17. Arrow will hit ground , You,ve lost Arrow
