ShopRite LPGA Classic: Laura Davies will now put her skills to test in LPGA event
Laura Davies, who lost the Unicredit Ladies German Open to French Anne-Lise Caudal in playoff, is gearing up to participate in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, scheduled to start from June 1-3, at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, New Jersey.
Davies is one of the veteran stars in the field of the ShopRite LPGA Classic, who are known for their resilience. According to the tournament officials, the roster is going to feature most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) contenders.
Some of the prominent players include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, world number three Suzann Pettersen, Stacy Lewis, Jessica Korda, Sun Young Yoo, Sophie Gustafson, Na Yeon Choi, I.K. Kim, Mina Harigae, Maria Hjorth, Jin Young
Pak, Shanshan Feng and others.
Davies can prove a tough contender, given her solid profile both on the LPGA Tour and the LET (Ladies European Tour).
Analysts said that the English star has been seeking to record yet another win in her career, as she has shown on several occasions that a victory keeps her motivated.
However, they were keen to point out that winning against players like the defending champion, Brittany Lincicome and Yani Tseng will not be easy for Davies.
Nevertheless, if she manages to record a good score in the first two rounds, she can put pressure on her rivals.
Analysts said that due to the strong field, it will be difficult to predict an outcome. With the defending champion vowing to defend her title, the match will be more interesting.
Moreover, Azahara Munoz, who recently won the Sybase Match Play Championship at New Jersey, will be eyeing the prestigious title.
Keeping in mind her performance in the current season, Munoz can pose a serious threat to other contenders.
Sharing her thoughts about her experience in professional golf during an interview, the Spanish star said that she is confident to come face-to-face with big names.
“My experience has been great. I got lucky and started playing well right away, so I got paired with really good players. I played with Michelle Wie, Laura Davies, Natalie Gulbis — all these amazing women I was watching on TV not that long ago. And they've
all been super nice to me,” Munoz said.
