ShopRite LPGA Classic: Sophie Gustafson ready to prove her worth on the LPGA Tour
Swedish Sophie Gustafson has now set her sights on the ShopRite LPGA Classic, after showing a good performance at the Unicredit Ladies German Open, an LET (Ladies European Tour) event.
Gustafson played a balanced game in Germany last week, as she finished tied for the 7th spot on the leaderboard.
Now, with the LPGA event set to start from June 1-3, at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, New Jersey, the German golfer has decided to display her usual putting skills.
The ShopRite LPGA Classic is known for featuring tough contenders. The field, which has now been confirmed after 2 more qualifications on Monday, is going to feature battle-hardened contenders, both from the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and
the LET.
However, the Swedish star seems confident — thanks to confidence she gained after displaying a stunning performance in Germany.
Analysts said that the player is likely to give a hard time to her rivals, as she has shown in the past that she can bounce back in tough situations.
The roster contains the current world number Yani Tseng. According to the sport’s commentators, the top-ranked golfer tops the list of hot favourites.
Tseng herself has vowed to maintain her upper hand in the world rankings, and the ShopRite LPGA Classic is the best opportunity to consolidate her position in professional golf.
Keeping in mind Gustafson’s last performance, it can be safely said that the player has regained her momentum. Although the German Open featured most of the big LET stars, the Swede showed a distinct game, surging from the 13th to the 7th
place in the final round.
She posted an overall 280 — somethign her fans had not expected, due to her form. Gustafson kicked off the tournament in an impressive style and ramped up pressure on other contenders right from the start.
She registered a 69 in the opening round. While the final round also saw her stun the spectators, as she scored a decent 68 to claw her way up to the 7th spot on the leaderboard.
Gustafson plays both on the LPGA and the LET, but she has recorded more victories on the latter. Having grabbed 28 professional titles, the Swedish prodigy has recorded 5 wins on the LPGA Tour.
