why do shopping trolleys have 4 wheels instead of 3?

The supermarkets "road tested" a few made by Reliant and found them too dangerous.

They were rolling in the aisles when they saw the results!

it balance the weight or else can easily tiped over

to help it balance have you never filled the trolley to the top i have my dad just screams when he get the bill at the checkout.

Better balance. The way shopping is piled into the trolley, they need to be safe and 4 wheels are more stable than 3.

The ones I seem to choose only have three out of the four wheels working....

A heavily loaded trolley with 3 wheels would tip over easily.

It may sound daft but its for better handling. How pissed off would you be if yours tipped over and spilt your shopping everywhere?
