  1. While items are cheaper in Buffalo, like the above mentioned TV, after adding tax and duty at the border big ticket items even out almost dollar for dollar. Shopping in US can save money, but be careful what you buy

  2. Yes, shopping is supposed to be really cheap in Buffalo because they have some outlet malls there, and there are also a few on the Canadian/American border, in the Niagara area. Not to mention, the US have much better sales than we have here in Canada. Especially after Thanksgiving, items go for more than half the price, that's why people run the next day.

  3. In general, everything is more expensive in Canada.

Even though the Canadian dollar is equal to the US dollar in the world markets.

Here's and example if you wanted a flat screen TV:

Panasonic 42" Plasma TV (model TH42PX80) at Best Buy in Canada - $1,499.00 CDN

    http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail...

Same Panasonic TV at Best Buy in the US - $1,199.00 US

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...

Both products are exactly the same.

Both products are exactly from the same retailer.

Both products have to be shipped the exact same distance.

As mentioned, before, on the world market the US dollar is about equal to the Canadian dollar.

The reason Canadians end up paying more is that the US is a much more competitive market than Canada. Competition drives prices down.

And I'm not even brining taxes into the equation. If some buys the TV at a Best Buy in Buffalo, they would pay $104.91 taxes on top of the price(8.75% sales tax in Buffalo).

If someone were to by the TV at a Best Buy in Ontario they would have to pay an additional 14% (PST and GST) or $209.89 CDN

So the price difference between the 2 products actually is about: $405.

  4. it's becauese the high Canadian dollar and buffalo is one of the closets big cities their in the us from Toronto. And for a 200 tims it probaly cost about123to 175

  5. I've never been to Buffalo but I go to Syracuse often and it is considerably cheaper. When you look at the price you have to also realize that NY state does not have a 14% sales tax. It is under 5% so right there that is a 10% savings. Most consumer goods are also about 20-30% less plus you have access to brands not available in Canada.

Given the time and cost of travel I would say it is not worth it unless you are buying a lot or you have have a reason to go. I mean travelling 2 hours each way to save $50 is hardly worth it but if you are going to buy a lot of stuff or you want to go to the Falls anyway then go for it.

  6. BUffaloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo... ..... yeah its cheap :D

  7. The best place to get Tim's over in B-Lo is actually at the Rainbow mall which is outside of Buffalo. I used to buy all my sons Tim's there.  I have bought them from 30 - 55.00 dollars.

1900 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304
