  1. Abercrombie & Fitch

199 Water St., at Fulton St.

    212-809-9000

    Staten Island Mall,

2655 Richmond Ave., near Arthur Kill Rd., Staten Island

    718-698-9480

    abercrombie.com

If they can tear their eyes away from the glossy Bruce Weber photos lining the wall of this store, stylishly casual teens will find plenty to love. Americana is everywhere with denim jackets ($49.50), vintage-wash boot-cut jeans ($69.50), zip-front hoodies ($39.50), and polos and dress shirts emblazoned with the famous A&F ($39.50).

    Adidas Originals Store

136 Wooster St., near Prince St.

    212-777-2001

    adidas.com

Young jocks and wannabe D.J.’s come here for the old-school look of the Originals sneaker and apparel collection, which features the brand-new “Respect Me” collection from Adidas and Missy Elliott, including a camo jacket ($85), matching pants ($60), and a basketball tanktop ($45).

    Alikat NYC

225 Court St., Cobble Hill, Brooklyn

    718-834-1616

Named after the owner’s stepdaughters, Alice and Katherine, Alikat is stocked with a wide variety of cool p*****n and teen gear from favorites like Ella Moss, Miss Sixty, and Project E (Junk Food tees are $24). Don’t be surprised if you see some skinny contemporary moms shopping with their daughters—stock goes up to size 16.

    American Eagle Outfitters

    575 Broadway, at Prince St.

    212-941-9785

Staten Island Mall, 2655 Richmond Ave., near Arthur Kill Rd., Staten Island

    718-494-2885

    ae.com

It seems like the cast of Dawson’s Creek might have suited up exclusively at this store, which, while borrowing from the Abercrombie aesthetic, delivers those laid-back prep goods at much lower prices. The official clothing sponsor of Road Rules on MTV (they wardrobe the cast) has jeans from $29.50 to $48, hoodies for $39.50, and graphic tees for $15.50.

    Betwixt

    245 W. 10th St., near Hudson St.

    212-243-8590

    betwixt.com

This trendy downtown shop is full of brands that stylish preteens love: Diesel, Juicy, Miss Sixty, and Monkeywear dresses ($88), for starters. Screened tees are offered, too.

    Diesel

770 Lexington Ave., at 60th St.

    212-308-0055

One Union Sq. W., at 14th St.

    646-336-8552

    diesel.com

It’s no secret that hip teens crave Diesel’s slim jeans—their denim micro-minis and puffy nylon down vests have become standard apparel—but the Italian manufacturer offers heaps of other Eurowear at prices ranging from $19 for a basic tee to $109 for sleeveless cotton-knit tops.

    Forréal

1335 Third Ave., near 76th St.

    212-734-2105

1375 Third Ave., near 78th St.

    212-396-0563

    forrealnyc.com

On the Upper East Side, a duo of Forréal stores outfit uptown girls with an impressive supply of top-selling velour outfits (the matching hoodies and pants) for $150 to $450. They’ve also got new outerwear from Juicy for $150 to $275, and the 1375 Third Avenue location carries the entire collections from Miss Sixty and Diesel.

    Gap

    Call 800-GAPSTYLE for store locations

    gap.com

Season after season, teens turn to this ubiquitous retailer for the basics—khakis, jeans, tees. Every year seems to bring some surprises, too: this fall, velvet skirts for $24.50, military corduroy cargo pants for $34.50, and puffer vests for $39.50.

    G.C. William

1137 Madison Ave., near 85th St.

    212-396-3400

Uptown girls come here for school staples like Michael Stars T-shirts (from $25) and Juicy jeans, as well as Juicy cashmere sweaters (around $150), So Low sweatpants (from $50), shearling coats ($300—$500), and other fancy duds.

    GirlPROPS.com

153 Prince St., near West Broadway

    212-505-7615

    girlprops.com

This basement boutique with a zebra-print storefront sells inexpensive jewelry, handbags, wigs, funky tights, sunglasses and clothing. The unapologetically neon green walls cast a decidely Teen Witchy spell over the place, making it a haven for tween-types who deck themselves out in Lisa Loeb rhinestone glasses (from $5.99), sequin bikini tops ($6.99), and gold doorknocker earrings from the eighties ($7.99).

  2. For value, try H&M, just east of Macy's on 34th street

  3. The SoHo area is really nice and somewhat affordable. Stay on Prince St and Broadway. Manhattan mall on 34th street is good and also Macy's on 34th street.
