As a student with a very low student-budget where can I shop in paris. Have been reading other yahoo answers about the big department stores like Galerie Lafayette and Printemps. So how do I get there by metro. (leaving from metro station bercy)

What about stores like H&M C&A are they close (walking distance) to Galerie Lafayette and Printemps.

I also read something about tati, can someone give me more info on that? I would gladly appreciate it.

  1. All the best you'll find in Rue de Rivoli - at affordable prices - a special mention for Celio ( men's clothes )- good bargains - not really far from tourist traps that you quoted -

this street begins at St Paul close to Hôtel de Ville, and goes unto Place de la Concorde -

Tati is depressing and generally chooses surrounding districts - may forget them -

Otherwise in the suburbs, Kiabi where clothes not bad, and very cheap - Google it - you'll find

  2. Be a smart shopper and to stay away from the bright lights and famous names on streets like the Champs Elysee and the Rue St. Honore.

Instead, check out the back streets of the Marais (4th arrondissement). There are lots of little shops everywhere.

Wander around checking out shops along the rue Monge in the 5th arrondissement and on the side streets off the rue St. Andre des Artes and the rue Buci in the 6th. Both of these areas are filled with students with great style but often little money.

The flea markets also have a lot of great buys and the one at St. Ouen is the biggest. Take the Metro to Porte Cligancourt and when you exit just follow the crowds.

Go to the French version of an outlet mall called La Vallee Village (3, cours de la Garonne Paris 77700) where over 75 leading ready-to-wear, table ware and luxury labels offer their previous season's collections (minimum of 33% reduction (off original recommended price) and up to 60%).

Its actually outside Paris but easy to get to. by the RER commuter train to the Val d'Europe station.  Further, three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays), there is a Cityrama shuttle service that goes there. Departure from the Cityrama agency, place des Pyramides, at 10:15 am and return to Paris at approximately 5:00pm. The fare is 15€ round trip. Reservations are required by 5:00pm the day before departure, at your hotel desk or Cityrama agency.

There is also the The Quai des Marques It also sells lots of last year clothes and features 73 fashionable brands, most of them french. The Quai des Marques is located 9, Quai du Chatelier 93450 Ile Saint-Denis. It is open from 11am to 8 pm from Mondays to Fridays and from 10am to 8 pm on Saturdays. It can be reached by taking the #137 Bus marked "Direction : Industrielle Nord" to the Blvd. Marcel Paul Stop.

To get to the Galerie LaFayette (40, Boulevard Haussmann), C&A (49, boulevard Haussmann)  or to Printemps (64, Boulevard Haussmann)  from the Bercy station take the RER A marked "Direction : Cergy-Le-Haut" to the Auber station. The stores are a block north.

There are several Tati's but you probably want the one at 4 bd. Rochechouart (Metro: Barbès Rochechouart) http://www.tati.fr/www/
