  1. grab a calculator type in 0.5 x 39.97 = and then round to the nearest cent

  2. It would come to about $19.99.

If you want to find the percent of something, take the original price and multiply it by .50 or whatever the percentage is.

If shoes are $40.00 and 75% off, take

    40.00 x .75 = 30.00

And subtract the answer from the original price.

So the shoes would be $10.00.

  3. it will be like almost 20 dollars

  4. About 20, as Elle said.

To figure this out for other percentages and other prices, think of how you get from 100 to the percent value using division and multiplication. That's the rebate, the money you don't have to pay, so subtract that from the original price (in the case of 50%, it's half, so it doesn't matter).

    Examples:

    - To get from 100 to 50, you divide by 2. So you divide 39.97 (which is about 40) by 2 and you get about 20. 40-20 = 20. You need to pay 20, if it's 50% off.

    - To get from 100 to 20, you divide by 5. So you divide 40 by 5 and you get 8. 40-8 = 32. You need to pay 32, if it's 20% off.

    - To get from 100 to 40, you divide by 5, then multiply by 2. So you divide 40 by 5 and you get 8, then you multiply by 2 and you get 16. 40-16 = 24. You need to pay 24, if it's 40% off.
