Question:

Shopping prices every week?

On average, how much would you say you spend a week? Just on basic things like food, toiletries and children's clothes?

We spend a fortune, the prices are ridiculous at most places. For myself, my wife, our twin babies and our nephew it costs a heck of a lot.

How many people are in your family and how much does it cost?

What do you think of it?

  1. For us a family of four it's between 95$ to 125$ just for food.My kids are 11 and 13.Plus I have to buy food for the dog and cat snack, cat food,Cat litter every week.

I don't keep track of clothes anymore.

  2. We have my husband and I and our 16 month old son.  We sometimes will feed friends on the weekends, but not always.

For groceries we spend about $50-$60/week with one or two fast food meals as well.  We share a car, so we use about one tank of gas a week, which for us is about $40-$43 (10 gallon tank).

For toiletries, including diapers and wipes, we spend about $40-50/month, or about $10/week.

With clothes for our son we spend about $20/month, or about $4-5/week.

Doing some quick math it looks like we spend about $120 or so per week on food, gas, and other misc things.  What do I think of it?  I'm glad that we don't have a larger family, that we don't drive two cars, and that we can afford to invite some friends over on the weekends and eat with them.  It's a lot, but it could be a lot worse.  I've learned how to cook some really cool, new foods that I wouldn't have learned if food prices were lower.

  3. there are two adults and 4 boys and their friends in our house and I have to spend about 100$ a week but that is on stuff that I have to cook. I don't buy all of this organic stuff or diet foods, we get potatoes, mac and cheese, vegetables, juice, milk, bread, cheese and stuff like that for cooking.

for the week at school I have to pay 45$ a week for breakfast. lunches and snacks. I also have to buy clothes that average about 200$ every 3 months which is when I go shop for them and then all of their supplies for band, chorus, gardeners classes, soccer supplies, baseball and basket ball. ( I know there is more, I just cant think of it all)

I was a stay at home mom for 8 years and I found out quickly that the baby stage is the easiest, wait until they get older and start needing all of this food for growing and more expensive toys. even after I spend what I do on them, I still cant buy them things to play with so there is not alot of toys for them. its ridiculous, I had to go back to work just to help pay for the basics for their schooling and groceries and it just keeps getting more expensive.

  4. i spend about 200 for me, my husband, my toddler and 2 teenagers.

as well as my husbands mother. my toddler has to eat organic food because of her allergies so it makes it more expensive. and i also have to deal with gas for driving about 60 miles a day.

  5. um...

things r cheaper in the gheto

  6. my self, my husband, a two year old and a five month old......we spend $170 a week on food alone....clothes formula diapers wipes toiletries, and anything else we need its insane!!!  we could easily spend $1000 a month just on that.  ive had people tell me why dont you just use genaric?? but what do you do if your child is allergic to the genaric diapers and wipes......and throws up the genaric formula???  im with you on how crazy the price of general needs are outragous  i dont know if your wife is working or a stay at home mom but i have had to go back to work because of the increases.     it sucks!!

  7. on average i spend about 80 of just food for my self, my daughter and my gf. i shop at about 3 different grocery stores though since where i live there are a kroger and meijers and a walmart very close. i get the things that are on sell and i switched some of my normal foods to meijer brand. they taste just the same to try to save money since i my self spend 45 dollars a week on gas to get to work.

  8. For three of us (myself, hubby and 16-month old), i would say about $250 per week (CDN$). And that's not even incuding diapers, we use cloth.  We just got groceries today, $170 for a week!  We were looking at the receipt, marveling at the cost of basic things like milk and yogurt.  A 12 pack of yogourt is over $6, and 4L of homogenized milk is also over $6.  It's crazy.

  9. It costs soooooooo much. it's me and my fiance and our 5 month old, and everything is so ridiculously priced! I had to formula feed because my milk never came in due to an infection I had in my incision and formula is outrageous! I am so hoping nothing will go wrong with my next child, due in 4 months, so I can breast feed. And baby clothes for some crazy reason are just as expensive as my clothes and they are 1/4 of the fabric. Food is crazy too, even if you buy fresh produce and make everything from scratch it is still expensive. It is seriously unbelievable how much it costs to live nowadays. Milk is 4 dollars a gallon!!!!! I don't even buy things I don't need anymore, I will live off peanute butter and jelly, and it still costs a lot. I am thinking about next year growing some of my own things in a garden, and my father hunts so I figure if I grow some good veggies I can can some stew and other things, get up through more easily, it's really the only way to go and that it what we are getting back to, everyone is going to need to start growing their own food and hunting again, because no one can afford to live.
