what security did we have in the 80s and early 90s in shops when there was no cctv

Sometimes plain-clothed, or uniformed security guards, and clerks, just keeping an eye out for shoplifters or  employees who are pilfering.  Plain old surveillance, and two-way mirrored windows for observation.
