Question:

Shore excursions for Montego Bay?

We are taking the Carnival Conquest in June. We have heard many reports of uncomfortable situations for shore excursions in Montego Bay. Friends took the dune buggy tour and they were escorted by armed guards. Some cruise guests were robbed last year. Any recommendations for safe shore excursions for Montego Bay?

  1. I would highly recommend the Doctor's Cave Beach Snorkel excursion.  We were on Carnival Conquest in 2006, and took this trip.  They pick you up by catamaran, right at the cruise pier, and carry you straight to the beach.  Plus, the view from the water on the way is nice!  There, you can snorkel, swim, sunbathe and more, plus, there's a restaurant right on the beach.  There are also hammocks in the shade if you just want to relax.  A good article we have on this place is:

Another good thing about taking this trip is the fact that you don't have to fight with street traffic, so there's very little lost time...just right to your destination!

  2. Anything you book with the cruise company is safe. The cruise ships want to keep there passengers safe at all costs and they will not take you anywhere that is not safe. When I go on a tour, I don't bring hardly any cash with me and not my purse either, just my cruise card and perhaps one credit card and my ID, that's it. I have never even come close to having any problems anywhere and have been ot Montego Bay and several third world places and islands.

  3. jsut book through the cruise line.

  4. Jamaica is very iffy, even on the cruise ship excursions - participants were robbed at gunpoint on a ship excursion in Ocho Rios last year.  I would never go on a private tour in Jamaica; if anything happens, at least the ship will wait for you, if you are on a ship's excursion.

If you did decide to go on your own, you should wear no jewelry [even wedding rings] and should have your passport [leave a copy of it on the ship] and a credit card, so that if anything goes wrong, you can get off the island.

  5. We just got back from that crusie on the 17. We booked the Negril excursion and we had a blast. Takes you about an 1-1/2 to get there and you will stay a the Magaritaville. Very nice beach!!!!
