My friend and I put a bet of £25 each on an event. We said we would split winnings we collected.I won 130. He won 3. Ignoring the 3 does he get (130-25)/2. I say this becuase we both "gave away" our bets to the person accepting our bets. I receive mine back for winning. We said we would split the winnings ,does he receive half of 130 or half of the winnings minus my initial bet. (Considering he doesn't have his initial bet of 25 anymore I wasn't sure if he should be entitled to half of mine? Thanks...what about the 3....on a minor detail.

  1. You both put $25.

Winning was only 130, therefore, you have to divide the win in half which is $65.

  2. you bet $25 he bet $25 total of $50 got back $133

each gets back thier $25 stake, balance ($133-$50=$83) split between the two

    therefore ($25 + $83/2)=$66.50

sorry $ no pounds sign on my computer

  3. You give him £65 and he gives you £1.50.  You both end up with £66.50.

  4. sorry this is not what u wanna hear but you will have to give him 65 dollars. eg 133/2 = 66.5-1.5(which was half of what he got)= 65 dollars. Bit of a bummer really just dont do beats with him again. But yea on the other had i would be happy if i got 54 bucks.

  5. im confussed

  6. Coldrain sounds about right mate.

  7. OKay, before you guys entered into the bet, the terms are not clearly defined.  But logically speaking, winning = total win - initial bet.  It's like blackjack.  You bet £10, if you win the dealer will give you £10.  So your winning is £10 not £20. In your case £130 - £25 = £105.  Your friend does not have to share because technically speaking he did not win anything.  So, as you two agreed you should split the winning in half and give your friend £52.50.

  8. Revised answer

I guess the idea in both your minds was that any to come would be divided equally no matter which bet won so you should each take £66.50 out of the returns of £133.

The trouble is that people have different interpretations of what you mean by win as sensible people would deduct stake to arrive at a net gain while others immediately and automatically regard their stake as lost, in the same manner as if it went into a slot, and regard any returns as winnings.

    You'll know next time.

  9. £158 / 2 = £79 each

  10. i guess the 25 u both put was a part of the investment. giving away ur initial bets of 25 each was part of the game.

it really doesn`t matter who won coz it was decided to share the winnings equally.

so both of u r entitled to receive ur initial investment plus the gains over and above it.

so the total u guys managed to win was 130+3=133.

first recover the investment : 25x2=50

now distribute the excess of 83 equally : 41.5 each

    which actually is 133/2=66.5 each

  11. Dude the math may be short and simple but your explanation is the opposite, god knows wat youre tryin to say here....

  12. Did you win £130 , or £105 + your stake money back , If the latter split the £105 , and pocket your stake money , it was yours at the start , your initial investment

  13. Just give him half the winnings and that should stop his whinging.

  14. Your getting a total of £133 back

If you agreed to split the winnings ,this would  mean £66.50 each

No need to look any deeper ,If it was me I would expect to pay out the 66.50
