Why doesn't the hydrogen atom in the hydrogen bond ionize?

  1. You can't have free H- and H+ ions.


  2. A hydrogen bond is when you have an electronegative atom covalently bound to a hydrogen, and another electronegative atom partially binds to the hydrogen. The hydrogen doesn't ionize because it can't participate in the bond  if it does, and then you creat extra negative charge on the atom hydrogen was bound to, and that atom doesn't want that charge.

    Basically, the hydrogen has no reason to ionize, why do you think it would? That would help me to explain why what you are thinking is not the case.
