Short because you lift: Myth or Truth?

I'm 15 years old and I have been lifting for the past two years or so. All my friends say that the reason I am so short is becuase I started to lift such heavy weight at such a young age. I don't know what to think. I've heard that heavy lifting stunts your growth but I am also built like my moms side of the family and they are all short. I'm am only 5'5 and I would consider myself a junior body builder because I have entered teen strongman compititions. Is it a truth or a myth?
