I'm going on a short break to Belgium, staying in central Brussels. Where should I visit? If I never get to go there again where should I make sure I go and see this visit?

  1. I went for a day last week and saw the Mannekin Pis. The Grand Place is great anyway. Make sure you get some waffles and/or chocolates too!

Have a good time in Belgium

  2. I know Brussels fairly well.

You can hardly miss the Grand' Place - so I shan't say that.

The thing you can miss that stays with me most vividly is the early Flemish paintings in the Musées des Beaux Arts. If you have only seen Bosch, Brueghel and Cranach as reproduction posters the original paintings is like having your eyes hosed down.

But that is only for people who like paintings.

  3. I suggest you buy the AA Citypack for Brussels and Bruges. This will give you all the info you need to plan a short break to Brussels. It also includes a city map and maps of the underground and tram systems which are very easy to use.As well as the Grand' Place you should visit the Sablon area for chocolate shops and a Sunday antiques market. When we went last Autumn we spent a day of our short break in Bruges which is an hour away from Brussels by train and, if you have never been there before, is an absolute must.
