Short drivers I need your help!?

Okay, so I ran into a pole in a parking lot on Sunday and its really affected my life. Like shook me up a lot. I found out that I missed deploying the air bags by 1/4 of an inch, which not only means that I was 1/4 of an inch away from totaling my car but also 1/4 inch from possibly loosing my life. Because I am so short ad naturally petite (5'2'' 90lbs) I have to sit with the seat all the way up to reach the pedals.

My parents are looking into buying my leg extenders. What do you do? Because if you get in a crash and the air bags deploy you can be seriously hurt. This news has really shooken me up. Any advice is welcomed and appreciated

  1. you gotta pimp your ride dude...make that paddle long enough.

  2. Small cars tend to accommodate small people better. My fiance is your size and drives a bug. Perfect fit. The telescoping pedals/steering wheel would help. Being more attentive when you're driving could help prevent more poles from broadsiding you -- sneaky b******s. Also if you are just afraid of the air bag have it deactivated or taken out -- sure they are there for a reason but if they would do more damage to you if deployed than help you in a crash why use them.

  3. Time to get a petite car! You can actually get a Proton Savvy AMT (Auto-Manual Transmission) if you're living in the UK or Australia. It's petite enough for any drivers alike, with raised pedals (Renault Technology), so you won't have much of a problem then.

  4. You need a special car, you send your specification to the manufacturer, or modify your car locally to suit your shortness

  5. Just get peddle extenders.

  6. Well I tried. I searched car modifications for midgets and all I came up with is stuff on MGs. I don't know what else to do. By the way, I think you are taking the whole thing too seriously. I would ask the owners of that parking lot to paint their poles bright yellow though. People don't realize how easy it is to hit a pole in a parking lot. Did his name end with "ski?" just curious

  7. I'm 5'1". Never really thought about it. I drive a Buick and I think short people fit fine in this model anyways. I'm glad you are ok.

  8. Take the car to a machine shop and have the pedals modified and moved closer to your feet.  A bolt on extension should be able to be made that will solve this problem.  As far as the Airbag causing you to be hurt, this is nonsense.  It may be uncomfortable when they deploy, but they are there to save lives and unless you are an infant, they will do what they are designed to do, save your life.

  9. Look into buying a FORD. IT has peddles that adjust up to your feet. I am shure there is other cars out there that have adjusting peddles so shop around.
