Short of going to Family Court where/who is the best place to get legal advice on dealing with an Ex-Husband?

my sisters ex-husband is ruthless, bad mouths her to her daughter, brings her back late from visitations all the time, sends her insulting texts, spreads malicious rumors, stopped paying child support, badmouths her to their daughters teachers - camp counselors -etc., refuses to pay his half for anything, family is worth millions but he pays no alimony and claims no income or assets (lives in a million dollar home), harasses her boyfriend - even followed him and drove the wrong way on a one way street to confront him. What can she do? what are her rights? who can she speak to to get help? what type of lawyer? anyone other than a lawyer? THANKS!

  1. A lawyer who specializes in divorce is the only way to go.....if she has trouble meeting the retainer then her family should chip in and help...and in some cases the courts will order the ex husband to foot the bill....any way a lawyer is the best bet....good luck

  2. Brian there are usually a lot of paralegals that will donate an hour or so giving advice to people regarding many issues.

  3. mafia court,

  4. She can not deal with this man alone. She needs a good lawyer that can put a stop to all this nonsense.

  5. your sister needs to contact an attorney and the authorities about the illegal things her ex is doing..

family law attorneys will handle the case..she can go in the phone book and most attorneys will have the first consultation at no charge and they can tell her what her options are...

  6. YOUR SISTER NEEDS TO MAKE A POLICE REPORT EVERY TIME THAT HE BOTHERS HER OR HER BOYFRIEND INAPPROPRIATELY.

SHE NEEDS TO TAKE THE POLICE REPORTS TO THE PROSECUTORS OFFICE AND FILE A COMPLAINT.

THEY WILL GIVE HER A RESTRAINING ORDER.

HE WILL HAVE TO HAVE SUPERVISED VISITATION PER THE COURT ONCE THEY HAVE A HEARING ON THE MATTER.

SHE NEEDS TO PETITION THE COURT FOR A HEARING ON NONPAYMENT OF SUPPORT.

SHE CAN CHECK WITH THE LOCAL CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT AGENCY TO TALK ABOUT HIS NONPAYMENT.

THEY CAN PURSUE HIM THROUGH THE COURT AS WELL.

HE WOULD HAVE TO GO TO JAIL AND POST A CHILD SUPPORT BOND & A REGULAR BOND TO GET OUT.

SHE SHOULD SAVE THE TEXTS AND SHOW THEM TO THE PROSECUTOR, GET STATEMENTS FROM THE TEACHERS & CAMP COUNSELORS ABOUT HIS STATEMENTS TO THEM.

ONCE HE IS BROUGHT BEFORE THE JUDGE...HE WILL HAVE HIS BUTT HANDED TO HIM.

    BEST WISHES

  7. Most of this should have beenm worked out in the divorce decree.

in that case, she MUST go back to the court that has jurisdiction over The divorce.  if that is difficult (like in another city or state) then she nees to petition the court for a Change of Venu, meaning that she asks the present court to give up its control so she can move it to a new court.

In either case, a lawyer is needed.
