  1. I'm that tall and I'm trying out.  Just don't go for a front row position, play back row.

  2. Short people make up the majority of my schools team...practice is all you need

  3. im 5'1 and i play volleyball! the best position for us is back row or la barrel thats my position! go to the doc for your asthma i don't ahve asthma so i have no clue how to help you there but i can tell you to play volleyball its a blast!

    Good Luck

    Bria

  4. Go ahead, play, and have fun.  I played on a guys team called "6 Feet Under"

  5. LIBERO

  6. I play volleyball, and I'm short.  Height only matters if you are a hitter, left or right.  If not, you'll be Fine, really.  You just have to use your legs to put power behind the ball.  In volleyball, strength matters more, not size.

  7. im 5'2 and im trying out for my hs volleyball team in a lil bit and in the middle of camp. there are a lot of short ppl trying out and most of them are better than the taller ones. tall ppl in volleyball are just better for spiking and blocking. im a setter .. cuz im short lol. but i can still spike the ball even over a mens volleyball net so u can too. just try it and ull understand that height doesnt matter.

  8. ya i would tryout i'm short 2 and i made it

  9. Short players play in the NBA.  Surely you can play v-ball if you really want to.  The asthma thing is something you should already have figured out by now, so I can't advise you on that.

  10. dont worry..dont be intimidated by volleyball players jus because they are tall...im pretty short for a volleyball player..and it doesnt affect me..all u have to have is great strength

  11. Don't know about the asthma but short people are most times more versitile than the tall ones.  I'm realtively short but play outside hitter (spiking).  You have to work at it but you can improve your vertical jump.  My suggestion is to jump rope with ankle weights to improve that spring in your step!

  12. since your height isn't youe best asset...

you should be faster than anyone else, you center of gravity is lower..that means that you can have a faster response in diving for the ball...

you should have excellent passing skills...usually there is a very good passer in the middle...

  13. There are plenty of short people playing basketball. There are plenty of light people playing football. Heck!!! there are lots of no armed people that play frizbee!!! Nobody knew that blind people could find thier own way around town. If you like volleyball, then go for it!!! and MORE POWER TO YA BABE!!!!!

  14. just go for it!  i am not quite 5'4" and i have asthma also.  i play volleyball on a sand summer league.  i love it!  you'll never know if you don't try it, right?   GOOD LUCK!!!

  15. Well, I have been playing volleyball for about 5 years and, in my time, I have seen PLENTY of GREAT short players! Just believe that you can get it over and, you will.(Wow, i just sounded like a fortune cookie!lol) Good Luck!!!

  16. Well I'm 6', but I love having short people play w/ me because they can stay on the back row and dig balls so that i can get a hit. i think shorter people do a lot better on back row than taller people so i think you can deffinately play vball.

  17. I'm only 5'10 myself, (short for mens volleyball) but played competitvely for 16 years.  If you have good hands you would make a good setter, as skill is more of a factor than height.  Either that or you can be the libero player and specialise in playing back court, so you wont need to worry about reaching the net.

  18. yup i am the same height as you and have asthma too. its possible have no fear! :) not everyone needs to be able to jump over the net, you can be a libero aka backcourt specialist. this position specializes in passing and diving and digging and overall just setting up the play for your setter. this position is normally filled by shorter players and is a very entertaining spot to fill in my opinion! :)

oh and dont worry about your asthma, the endorphins in your body releave some of the symptoms but always have your inhaler on hand just incase an attact sneaks up on you! good luck and have fun! =)

here is a page from wikipedia that will help you with the libero concept...

    "The Libero

In 1998 the libero player was introduced, the term meaning free in Italian. The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: they must wear a different coloured jersey and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior notice to the officials. His or her replacements also do not count against the substitution limit each team is allowed per set.

The libero may function as a setter only under certain restrictions. If he makes an overhand set, he must be standing behind (and not stepping on) the 3-meter line; otherwise, the ball cannot be attacked above the net in front of the 3-meter line. An underhand pass is allowed from any part of the court.

Furthermore, a libero is not allowed to serve, according to the official rules. An exception is the NCAA women's volleyball competition, where a 2004 rule change does allow the libero to serve, but only in a specific rotation."

i hope this helps and i am sorry it is so long!!! :)
