Question:

Short-range jetliners?

I'm working on a fictitious airline (Louisiana Airs) with models of different jetliners to decorate my room, but I want to keep things as realistic/logical as possible.

Fleet:

Overseas long-haul:747-400/777-200

(the above)/domestic high-yield: L-1011/MD-11

Domestic high-yield: A310/767-200

Medium-long range/Caribbean: 757-200/737-900

Medium range: 737-800/A320

Short-medium range: 737-700/A319

Short range/high-yield regional: **737-600/**A318/717/F70

Regional: CRJ-100/ERJ-145

Say if the airline created a flightpath from LAX (Los Angeles) to San Diego, or a trip from MSY (New Orleans, the home base) to BTR (Baton Rouge) 80 miles away, would the A318 or 73-6 be suitable for those types of routes?

  1. MSY-BTR is only 56nm.  While I don't think you'd get a lot of people to fly that far in today's economy, if you are set on trying to fly them I think the only aircraft that would be worthwhile is something small like the 19 seat Beech 1900.

Sounds like an interesting project, if you don't want to use an existing airline, maybe at least use them for comparable routes.

  2. Forget the L-1011 since they are all but extinct, and the MD-11 fleet is going to cargo operators (mostly UPS and FedEx) because they are not economical for passenger service. Current carriers might use a 777 or A330 instead.

For the short hops, depending on demand, you might think about ATR-42 or ATR-72, Saab 2000, EMB-120, Beech 1900, etc. Jets are most efficient when they are at altitude, and on such short hops they can't get up there, so turbprops are more efficient.

  3. If you want to keep it realistic, a jetliner would not be very recommended for those short hops, since it would be a very expensive venture. Most airlines would use turboprop aircraft for such short routes. I would recommend either EMB-120, ATR-52/72, Dash 8 series or Saab 340.

But if you really just want to have a Jetliner on the route no matter what, I'd recommend the something like an ERJ or CRJ over the A318 and the 73-6.

  4. you could use the A318,DASH-8 Q300 OR 400,and other TURBOPROPS

  5. why dont you pick a current airline and use there existing schedule and transport

that way you know it is actual/realistic

    goodluck
