Short staff or broadsword?

Question

i take kungfu and when i get my next belt ill be able to do a weapon.

i can choose from fan,shortstaff or broadsword.but i dont want to do fan

so anyways which should i choose shortstaff or broadsword and why ?

which is easiest to fight with

whatever you feel most comfortable with.

weapons are a matter of personal choice.

Some people are avid supporters of staff, and others prefer a sword, some preferred range weapons like the chinese whip or linked weapons like nunchaku or 3 section staff.

if you feel comfortable with a weapon you'll be able to get more feeling with the weapon and thus perform better with the weapon.

That's odd.... you would typically learn standard height staff before short staff.... unless you're taking Choi Lei Fut..... anyways, it depends on what you want to do next, short staff will prepare you for longer weapons like spears, halberds, etc. While the broadsword would be more helpful for some work in more swords and dual weapons. Personally I'd choose the fan, because it's more defense than offense, unexpected, and quick, but like many people say, the short staff is more applicable... just not with an umbrella, the umbrella isn't built to use like a club or staff or sword, but more like a rapier. Lastly, the broadsword is best for translating into empty hand techniques.

Definitely SHORT STAFF!!!

The walking stick is the only martial arts weapon that you can openly carry on any street. If you ever find yourself in need of a weapon on the street, short staff techniques will work for any stick. Broadsword techniques do not allow you to transfer your grip to the other end of the weapon. Broadsword techniques also put a lot of effort into maintaining the alignment of your BLADE.

There are also short staff / jo / walking stick / cane methods in a variety of other martial arts (both Eastern and Western.)

Since your street weapon, should you ever need one, will probably be a stick -- learn how to use a stick!

The walking stick is my martial arts weapon of choice.
