Short-stop position of offer for either Seattle Mariners’ Brendan Ryan or Jack Wilson – MLB News
It looks like the short-stop position for the Seattle Mariners will be a competition between Brendan Ryan and Jack Wilson.
Both players are tremendously talented and the Mariners will be looking to one of these for the possible role of short-stop for the team.
Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge will be looking closely at the performance of both players during Spring Training for the short-stop position. Wedge understands the importance of the position of short-stop as being critical for the defensive success of any
Major League team. Short-stop is where all the action usually takes place and the team will be looking to put their best player in that position.
Both players are doing whatever it takes to put in a good performance during Spring Training to prove their worth and possibly be selected on the final roster to play at short-stop. The players are eager to perform at their level best and remain healthy
throughout the spring workout session.
The Mariners are looking for a successful Spring Training to finalise their rotations and line-ups. As the regular season approaches, the team will want their entire line-up healthy and full of confidence.
Ryan said, "This is a guy I've looked up to. It's not like its awkward or anything. We're both going to push each other. I think it'll be cool to be standing behind him, rotating and seeing how he goes about taking ground balls from directly behind him,
as opposed to on TV and all that.”
As the regular season is right around the corner, the Mariners are looking desperately for a possible post-season position. The team is full of talent and has the depth to take on any of the top tier teams in the League. Spring Training will give the Mariners
some time to make the right decisions regarding the various positions and making sure that they have their best players in the most crucial spots.
It will be interesting to see what Wedge decides for the short-stop position. Regardless if it is Ryan or Wilson, both are excellent players for the important spot. The Mariners have worked hard during the offseason to get some consistency in to their team
to have a good Spring Training session.
As Wedge is also new to the club, he will be looking to organise the team and instill some confidence and winning momentum that they can carry into the regular season. The Mariners are hoping for successful regular season and the possibility of making it
into the playoffs this year. However, in order to get there, they have to beat some of the best teams in the League and that is no easy task.
