Anyone know anything about what is needed, how much is usually costs, etc? Obviously it will vary by state, but I am just looking for general information.

  1. Short term is going to cost you the same as an annual policy - likely $1,000.   See, there's going to be a "Minimum earned" clause there, so even if you cancel that policy a month into it, you don't get any money back.  So you might as well buy it for the whole year.  Once you have three years coverage with no claims and no lapse, you can likely get a standard company to insure you for cheaper.

The issue is product liability - food poisoning.   Or food allergy claims.  It's a higher risk option.  You *might* find something as low as $500 (fully earned), but I do doubt that, with a food product.

  2. Find an independent insurance broker. There are some companies out there that could do it for $150 to $200 per year. Think of giving them all your insurance business and not just this piece.

  3. Go to an independent agent and ask for a commercial general liability policy for a concessionaire.  Also you might want to get inland marine coverage to cover your equipment.

In my state, Illinois, we can get a concession minimum premium policy for about $200 annually.  Minimum premium is for $2,000 sales annually, the premium will increase by the amount of sales you claim.
