I've been surfing for a couple of years and am looking at buying a shortboard. I'm almost 6'1" and weigh about 80kg. What is a good size board for me? p.s. I've been surfing on a 9'2" longboard

  1. Im 6'2" and almost 200lbs and I ride a 6'5".  If you get a good board with quality foam it will float you fine.. you just have to get used to it...  but I also have a fish for the small days. If I were you Id go for a 6'4" or 6'2" and just keep the log for the days that are crappy.

  2. I would say, because you've been using a longboard and because you're tall, I would say you should look for a board from about 6'7" to 7".  It will be a bit of a shock to the system how much you sink/struggle to paddle with a shortboard compared to a longboard, so don't make it too hard on yourself getting a board that makes surfing a bit too strenuous.  I'm about 5'8" and I have a 6'4" shortboard (which I like the feel of), so ratio wise, I think you should be looking in the high 6' to low 7'.

  3. Well, since you are a tall guy but not very heavy, i'd say anything around your height would be fine.  But it isnt always about the length.  Many longer boards can be faster and more maneuverable, so be sure to check out all the options and ask your local surf store to help you out.
