Shorter University ranked No. 2 in NAIA Women's Golf Coaches' Preseason Top 25
The NAIA Women's Golf Coaches Preseason Top 25 Poll has placed Shorter University Women's golf team in second place.
According to the latest reports, in the six events the team played, it has been able to finish in the top 5 five times in the ending 2010 season. Other than that, Shorter attained a 17th place after appearing at the NAIA Women's
Golf National Championship 2010. Shorter, also known as the Lady Hawks, has thus spent a trying time to earn today’s awarded status.
With the upcoming 2011 season, the team has a second place status in the country and is on the inside track to a return trip to the NAIA Women's Golf National Championship.
The Lady Hawks have achieved this status for the first time in their history and stand as the Championship favourites. These odds relate to the Southern States Athletic Conference title the team is aiming for which also includes
the challenge for the event that is the program's first National Championship.
The team proved their worth after playing an impressive game in October. The challenge included a tough competition which had five teams that had ended their season finishing in the top 25 rankings. As for the Lady Hawks, they
ended October’s event by attaining the twenty-first position and a triumph at the NAIA Women's Preview.
As far as the players are concerned, the medalist honours were awarded to Lisa Persson. Persson is a freshman from Shorter and achieved the credit after achieving the NAIA Preview by two strokes. The female golfer played a fabulous fall spell after joining
forces with Greta Lange that brought out a rather memorable season.
The 2010 NAIA All-American Lange finished in the Top Ten five times and also grabbed the runner-up position three times to date. In the individual standings, Greta Lange played the Chick-fil-A Collegiate that was hosted by Berry
College and finished 8th.
According to Greg Owens who is the head coach of Shorters, Persson is an extremely outstanding golfer. Owen praised his young team as well and said that they are the reason why the Lady Hawks can enter the 2011 season.
Owen also restated the effort carried out by the assistant coach and said that J.T. Clendenin has been impacting the team a great deal. Clendenin is a well known player at the NCAA Division I at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga
and was highly acknowledged by the head coach for his efforts.
