My friend,  the best route would be to take the train to Mangalore and then take the road route from Mangalore to Dharamasthala; the road from Mangalore is only 65 kms or so and you can cover it by shared taxi in about 1.5 hours.

The other train stations close to Dharamasthala on Shirady and Hassan; but the road travel will equally tenous and even more time consuming.
