Along with the FIFA Ballon d’Or, an award would be given to the Male Coach of the Year. The award is given to a person who has been the most influential as a manager of a particular team, who also helped his team to glory. The three men short listed for
the award are Vicente Del Bosque, the coach of Spain, Pep Guardiola, the coach of Barcelona, and Jose Mourinho, the coach of Inter Milan.
Jose Mourinho would be one of the favourites to win the award this year. The Portuguese tactician was the manager of Inter Milan last year. In the incredible performances last season, Mourinho led Inter Milan to one of the greatest feat in the history of
Italian football. Mourinho won his second Serie A title in a row, overwhelming all the other clubs in an easy fashion. Apart from this, Mourinho won the Coppa Italia for Inter Milan.
However, the biggest achievement for Mourinho was winning the Champions League for the Italian champions. Previously, Mourinho has only one Champions League title which he won with FC Porto. The victory with Inter Milan, however, was sweeter and far better
than the previous title. In the course of winning the Champions League, Mourinho’s Inter Milan defeated FC Barcelona, in the semi-finals of the tournament. Barcelona was going great and looking for their consecutive Champions League title until their assault
was halted by a more resilient and tactically far superior Inter Milan side.
Apparently, Inter Milan did not look like a great squad, as compared to Barcelona’s, but it was Mourinho’s brilliance that made the difference in the end. In the end, Mourinho went on to win the Champions League, beating Bayern Munich in the final. After
his success last season, with Inter Milan, Mourinho joined Real Madrid as the manager. He is doing well with his new club as he is sitting in second place, two points behind the current leaders Barcelona. However, for the most part it was Madrid who was leading
the points table, until they were beaten by Barcelona at Camp Nou.
Vicente Del Bosque would be a strong contender against Mourinho. The Spanish coach was brought in the Spanish side in order to get the team to a victory in World Cup. In the end, Del Bosque was successful in guiding his team to their first ever World Cup
in history. Although, it seems that winning the World Cup would have been easy for Spain because of the presence of some brilliant players in their squad.
However, the truth is that the Spanish side has always been hindered by the differences and disparities in their squad. So, it was a great job on part of Del Bosque who, for the first time in history, formulated a team that gelled together despite having
most of the players from Catalonia and Madrid. Apparently, Del Bosque did it by making Iker Casillas, the goalkeeper from Real Madrid, the captain and included most of the players from the current Barcelona squad.
The third nomination is of Pep Guardiola, who won the award last year as well. However, Guardiola has a little chance this year of winning the award, especially against Jose Mourinho. Mourinho was the one responsible for the exit of Barcelona from the Champions
League last season, so he would always have an upper hand. Although, Guardiola struck back this season, when he beat Mourinho’s Madrid by 5-0, but it is not enough to repair the damages done by Inter Milan last season. Therefore, in the end when it comes to
Mourinho and Guardiola, the winner would surely be Mourinho.
There is no doubt that these three managers are the best managers of the world right now, but considering the magnitude of success, the only deserved winner in this case is Del Bosque. Also, World Cup credit would be given as well, which makes Del Bosque
the favourite to win the award.
