Shortstop Emilio Bonifacio completes salary arbitration with Miami Marlins – MLB News
The Miami Marlins’ talented shortstop Emilio Bonifacio has come out successful in his salary arbitration hearing with the team and now will receive a promised $2.2 million in salary this season.
Earlier, the Marlins were stubborn to give him $1.95 million but he and his agent asked $2.2 million for 2012. Bonifacio has been playing with the Marlins for the last three seasons after spending a season in the Washington Nationals and two years in the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Going with .296 at hitting along with five home-runs, 36 RBIs and .360 OBP last season with the Marlins, Bonifacio also possesses relatively good stats’ with .269 hitting with six homers, 89 RBIs and .328 OBP throughout his career.
Experts believe that this late agreement between both parties on salary issues will put a positive impact on the game as a whole. The Marlins are also currently facing some issues within the franchise bringing in a Cuban defector player Yoenis Cespedes who is currently not fully eligible to play in Major League Baseball due to some certain difficulties on his existing playing status by the United States government.
Earlier, the Marlins' baseball operations president Larry Beinfest earlier stated in the media and tried to explain the details regarding Cespedes, his importance in the Marlins and why it is taking so long for his potential arrival in the League.
Beinfest said, “Obviously as a Cuban playing here in Miami, it could be an interesting situation. We have looked at all of that. You never have played in the major leagues as well until you play in the major leagues. It's the highest level in the world to perform and it's not an easy thing to do.”
Beinfest added, “You have to go off your evaluation and your gut and do all the homework you possibly can and after that there still are no guarantees.”
The Marlins are taking it slow with all these matters and trying not to rush towards solving all important subjects. First, they have successfully completed arbitration talks with Emilio Bonifacio and now they are going to gradually and intelligently bring Cespedes in the team for next season.
