Shortstop Stephen Drew remains top priority for Oakland Athletics – MLB Update
Shortstop Stephen Drew is still a top priority for the Oakland Athletics in this offseason. His free agency is already garnering interest from many Major League Baseball teams but the Athletics on the other hand, want to re-sign him for another season.
He last played for the Athletics in the 2012 Major League Baseball season and performed with quite consistency. He showed enormous improvement on the plate and played with sheer confidence. By hitting at an average of .223 along with seven homers, 28 RBIs and .309 OBP, Drew impressed many in the league.
Not only he impressed in the last season with his performance but since his arrival in big league, he has been performing quite consistently and now possesses a well established career .265 hitting average along with 77 home runs, 349 RBIs and .328 OBP.
Starting his playing career from the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2006, later he joined the Oakland Athletics and showed his hitting prowess with best of his abilities. Meanwhile, now since he has filed for free agency, many teams are pursuing him.
Looking at his career as well as last season’s stats, every team wants to add him in their respective roster. Drew’s agent however, remains optimistic on re-signing with the Athletics. Scott Boras, Stephen Drew’s agent, has recently met with the Athletics general manager Billy Beane as both talked through for a possible re-union.
Boras said, "The A's are very well run top to bottom, and certainly to put that franchise in a competitive environment stadium-wise would allow their growth, (It would) create just a greater competitive environment and more successful game overall."
Later Beane said, "We've opted not to pursue some (shortstops), and there are still some available to us, To be honest, there's no sense of urgency. We still have a few options. I've always said that Scott is a very intelligent man.”
Experts believe that next few weeks will be critical when Stephen Drew’s potential future will decide with Athletics or any other Major League team.
