  1. I think a Browning BPS in 10 ga. would work pretty well for you, they might cost a little more for the gun/ammo, but well worth it.  As far as ammo goes, but 3 1/2 in. turkey loads, these really do a number on small varmints.  If your'e shooting them because theyr'e damaging your crops, then you don't need any license or permit, in Kansas anyways.

  2. Get yourself a 12 gauge.  A new New England Firearms single shot runs under $200.  Better yet, you can find a good used Remington 870 pump shotgun, which will allow you a quick second and third shot.  Used ones are usually $150-$200 at pawn shops or gun shows.

A 12 gauge throws out a bigger pattern than a 20 or a .410, the shells are economical, and light game loads don't hurt when you pull the trigger.  Get some #8 shot and you'll be fine.  Plus, if the day comes that you want to hunt quail or pheasant, you've got a great gun for the job.

Gunbroker will give you a pretty good idea of prices for various model shotguns.  Licenses vary from state to state.  For pest control you may not need anything.  You'll just have to contact your state conservation office.  Good luck.

  3. Depending on what state you live in, it can vary in cost, but you will definitely need to get an adult resident license. If it's crows you are looking at, then I think you can even hunt them on sundays (you can in PA). As for a gun, a used 20 or 12 gauge will keep the cost down and work great for your pests. If it is doves or any other game bird, check your state regulations about special stamps and permits for migratory birds (doves are classified in here). Talk to your game commissioner about bag limits if they are truly pests (except the crows).

  4. If you stick with 20 and 12 gauge shotguns, your shells will be a lot cheaper. You can probably find a good used remington 870 or mossberg 500 in either gauge for around $200. You can get a new NEF single shot for under $200. If you look online for gun auction websites, you can find single shot used shotguns for under $100, but you have to add in shipping and transfer fees, usually no more than 50 or 60 dollars.

  5. dont kill the birds.you can get the same effect with firecrackers fake owls wirlygigs and cats

  6. An H&R Harrington & Richardson single shot 12 gauge Pardner shotgun is exactly what your looking for.... I have one of these for the same purpose... I have several expensive shotguns but I get the most enjoyment blasting birds with the H&R Pardner.... I think they are $125 or less....

Just use 2 3/4 inch bird shot..... Permits? I havent a clue... Just use your brain when you see a bird. If a red cardinal, blue bird, eagle or any other critter that looks endangered then just let it pass... There are plenty of crappy sparrows to blast at....
