Should 20/20 cricket be considered for London 2012

A few new events are always added to the olympics, so in London 2012 isn't it about time that 20/20 cricket was introduced into the olympics. And the argument that cricket isn't that popular around the world is now rubbished as more and more country's are playing it.

And it has to be worth considering if sports such as baseball, softball and handball are olympic events

  1. of course, if ot 20-20 at least 10-10.

  2. yes

  3. i think it is a great idea but evan though it is a 20/20 the prob wpuld be it still goes for a long time

  4. yah yah yah

  5. obviously,...tats the only way to spread the cricket worldwide

  6. Yes, Now its a shorter game. And it has all the ingridients to become a popular game like football.

  7. I would love to see cricket at the Olympics and 20/20 should make this possible.

However, GB are currently the Olympic cricket champions. In Paris in 1900 there was an Olympic cricket tournament and GB beat France over two days in a 12 a-side game. Admittedly the French team were made up of mostly British embassy staff. I wouldn’t want to lose our Olympic cricket crown!

  8. Of course but , adjsuting it will be difficult.

  9. Good point! Cricket is definetly growing in popularity worldwide! I am an Argentine who a few years ago thought cricket was a bug! Now cricket is not only my favorite sport, but my consuming passion! Olympic cricket would also help cricket break into those elusive European, American, and Chinese markets.

  10. Yes it should be, football etc. part of the olympics now so there is no reason why 20/20 shouldn't be able to fit in as well.

  11. I personally would like cricket to be introduced.

20/20 matches get over in about 3-4 hours and with so many cricket grounds in UK it will not be difficult to accomodate this sport.

The competition could be held on knockout basis and with the limited number of teams, it will finish well within the framework of the games.

Advice : The organisers could take Mr Lalit Modi & Co to be the organisers of the 20/20 matches.

How ever , when the games are being hosted by a country where cricket is not played, it could be organised either in India or any other country where cricket is played, in turn ofcourse.

  12. Of course - the smaller version can fit into the Olympic schedule quite easily! And it will easily attract much more audience to the games!

  13. I defenitley think so,20/20 has become more popular thanks to the IPL,CL,and the Twenty20 Cup beside Kevin Peterson becoming the new England captain a lot of semi-pro teams play cricket

    USA

    Bermuda

    Canada

    IRELAND

    SCOTLAND

    Kenya

    Zimbabwe

    theyre all good teams

i think cricket should be allowed to raise its level as a top sport and London 2012 would be a great start.Players such as Gilchrist and Kevin O Brien have already said that cricket should be a olympic sport and i agree with them.Whats wrong with cricket ok so its not as popular as football, but how bout net ball and volleyball and hockey their not popular eitheir.I would expect cricket to be part of the olympics in 4 years time especially when it was england who invented the sport

  14. yes...especially since its in london they wont have to worry about finding a cricket ground plus you can play both day games and daynighters.

  15. I want cricket to be an olympic sport........

20/20 is not the best ambassador for cricket.....as you know, 20/20 doesn't showcase the real talent of the players....

However, for making cricket more popular, 20/20 is the best remedy...as it provides entertainment.....but t20 is not real cricket......

    verdict:)

as I want cricket to be included as an olympic sport, I'll give thumbs Up to this idea of giving t20 a chance........

    Abhinav - you are awesome!!!!!

  16. Ofcourse for sure it should be considered!!!!!!!!!!!1

  17. Of course it should be considered for the London 2012 Olympics. Cricket is a great sport and it will make more people interested in taking part and competing in the sport.

  19. I think the events for 2012 have already had to be decided - certainly golf are talking about pushing for entry in 2016. I think Twenty20 would be a great addition to the games.

By the way, do you know who the runners up were, the last time Cricket was in the Olympics? You'd be surprised!

  20. h**l yeah playa'

  21. No, it shouldn't, it goes against all the principles that we even have idiot so called sports like synchronised swimming, and beach volleyball, no cricket, no football, no tennis, they should not be part of any Olympics.

  22. It is a distant possibility. The earliest cricket could be included in Olympics is 2020. Even then 20-20 will take more than 3½ hours, which is too long, which is an hindrance, and the disadvantage of cricket over other sports.

  23. No to the cricket only played by a few countries.

As for Handball it is a major sport that we do not play much in the UK.

As for Softball & Baseball both have larger following in more countries than Cricket.

Baseball has already been dropped from the London 2012 schedule.

What should be dropped are the so called sports that have judging.

Gymnastics, Diving, Dressage etc. These are all biased in different ways.

  24. I wish it would be. It would be fantastic, and would give 'minnow' nations an opportunity to compete. The West Indies would have to split into their own individual countries and a GB T20 cricket team would be great. T20 is perfect for the Olympics as well, like rugby sevens (which I believe is being used as an exhibition event in 2012).
