The United States cant preach to everyone on independence or becoming a republic when it says everyone has the right to self rule.

  1. no we need their oil.

Not EVERYONE has the right to self- rule (Hitler, anyone?)

  2. That sound pretty crazy.  Just my opinion.

  3. 1. The US purchased Alaska from Russia.

    2. Alaskans wanted and still want statehood

    3. They are forbidden by law to secede from the union

    4. Even if they wanted to secede, it would be suicide. They would become a very weak independent country who would be at the mercy of Russia. Without US protection, they would likely be annexed by the Russians. Do you think the canucks would protect them? I don't.

  4. I dont see why Alaska would want to become an independent state.  I would have to read the reasoning.

  5. Why?  Alaskans voted to enter statehood, and the US welcomed them.

  6. In the US constitution there is no provision for a state to leave the union, so it would never happen.  Also, the USA would never let all that oil up there get away.
