  1. The NCAA requires 12+ teams to have divisions like the ACC, SEC, and Big 12.  Not all conferences are able to get 12 teams.  The Big 10 has been trying to get a 12th team since the 90's when Penn State joined as the 11th team.  The only major school in the upper midwest would be Notre Dame who wont join any conference for football because they make more money with their NBC contract than they would joining a conference.  Its possible the Pac 10 has the same problem.

  2. It adds a wrinkle at the end of the year with the championship game, but some leagues need to be bigger in order to do this. But it also builds rivalries having to fight fewer teams on your side of the conference. Kind of like Auburn-LSU, or Florida-Tennessee.

  3. Yes it should because it sets up the two best teams of either divison to crown who is the best team in the conference. But having it for the SEC,Big 12 and ACC are ok.The Pac-10 and Big 10 would really hurt because there only a few good teams in each conference and we could see the same 2 teams runnin a conference for decades so havin it to who wins the most conference wins is ok for them.
